UNM Head Coach Steve Alford
"It's really been the same tune all year, this team has given incredible effort. We knew were going to have to give incredible effort to beat this UNLV team. Lon has done a terrific job with this UNLV team and we just gave that kind of effort and that is what I appreciate for what these young men have done. They have come so far. They bought into things really early, it has just been a very special season in The Pit and now we have one more major task ahead of us and that is to get one more road win before we get to the tournament."
On going to NCAA
"We got to win Saturday. You don't leave anything to chance. We get this thing to 24 wins and eight road wins overall. That is an incredible body of work. That should be good. Saturday is a pivotal game and we knew that going in. We got to take a day off tomorrow as players and coaches got to crank it out and it's a difficult game. (CSU) could be winless going into that game, it's there senior day, no pressure, it's not an easy place to play. We have been in the surroundings of 18,000 people all cheering for us. That is going to be different on Saturday. It is a real pivotal game."
UNLV Head Coach Lon Kruger
"I thought New Mexico played great. I thought they took the initiative right from the start. We were basically on our heels, fought back at halftime. They opened the second half with a big run. They went for loose balls and were more aggressive to the boards and did more things they wanted to do then we did. They were quicker to the board then we were, they got after loose balls, they rebounded more aggressively. They won those battles. New Mexico is a good team, they have been playing great. When you go on the road you have to lower that base and be the aggressor and I don't think we were for many plays on the night."
"We turned the ball over two or three times there early in the second half and they converted on the other end. We got whipped. We have been whipped a few times. We don't have much margin. It's not like we are going to play great every night if we don't win the battles and do the little things better and New Mexico did those things better than we did tonight."
On JR and playing in The Pit
"He really rebounded the ball well. He is such a great player, he does a lot of things well. Every time you play in a tough environment against a good team and you come up short you learn from that situation. You learn things that you have to do a little bit better and play a little bit tougher, and a little lower pace and all the things you have to do to win the tight battles."
