- Over the past eight weeks my teammates and I have been anxiously awaiting the start of "official practice". Trust me, we can only do so many weeks of conditioning and lifting before it is not fun anymore. Although, we know that the running and the lifting are only getting us better and are essentials for making us the team that we want to be, hearing the phrases " put more weight on that" and "get on the line" get pretty old after eight weeks. So needless to say, that day every year in mid-October we are all very much ready for.

That day this year was October 13th, and we started off the season with the annual Lobo Howl. The Howl consisted of an alumni game, intersquad scrimmage, and 3pt. contest. We had a great crowd that came out and supported us this year at the Howl, which makes playing in it a lot of fun, and gives the freshman a little taste of what it is like to play in front of a crowd. The scrimmage this year I thought went pretty well. I think both the coaches and players were very pleased with how it went considering we are trying to mix 7 returners with 6 newcomers.

We are getting in the middle of our first week of practice and things have been going pretty well. Coach Flannagan seems to be happy with our effort. He is doing a lot of teaching these first few days, which isn't unusual for the first week of practice. Especially since we have so many new faces it is important that he teaches the skills and fundamentals he wants them to make habits early on, so by the time our first game comes around they will have those habits. Along with the start of practice, we have also hit the half way point of the semester for school. Fall Break was last week so it was nice to have a few days off of school, especially after the mid-terms I had in most of my classes. The 2nd part of the semester might be a little tougher concerning class because we are traveling a few times in November and December. However, we have all always done a pretty good job keeping up with school, and if we are slacking the coaches will be sure to let you know about it.

Like I mentioned above we are going to have a few scrimmages here the next few weeks. The first scrimmages will be this Friday and Saturday at 5:00 pm. I encourage everyone to come out and check us out. We have a lot of talent this year, with a lot of experience coming back and a very talented freshman class so it will give you a taste of what this season will bring.
