Senior Defensive End D.J. Renteria
Question: What concerns you most about this Rebels team?
D.J. Renteria: "Well, year in and year out they always have great athletes down there. Coach (John) Robinson is a great coach as well. They are a dangerous team and we will be waiting for them to show it."
Q: Do you think that their hunger level will be intense since they are on a losing streak?
DR: "They are going to come in here really hungry. They're not completely out of it yet, so they can turn the tables at any time. They're going to come out and play us as hard as they can, but at the same time, we're going to do the same thing because there are a lot of things we want to accomplish this season."
Q: Are you guys looking to close out the rest of the conference and solidify your chance for a championship?
DR: "Last week was a great win, beating a ranked team for the first time in a few years. Right now we're just trying to focus week in and week out and realize that they task at hand is a very important one. We're just trying to get mentally and physically prepared for the team that is about to come in here this weekend so we don't get upset. We want to stay on track and end up on the plus side of things."
Q: What has been going on with the defense lately stepping up and making great plays?
DR: "The defense is just coming together. Everybody is gelling right now and right now we are getting a lot of those mistakes we were making in the beginning of the season out of the way. The coaching staff has just put us in a great position to allow us to make plays to help our team out. Once you get up on a team you can usually just pin your ears back, fly around and make plays."
Q: How impressed are you with the offense? Do you think they can keep up what they did last week?
DR: "Oh yeah, I have a lot of confidence in them. We have great athletes on our side of the ball and a lot of seniors who provide leadership, and the coaching staff is doing well with them. I have great confidence in them that they are going to show up Saturday and just highlight what they are good at doing. The rest of us will be right there to back them up."
Q: With the game being live on television, does it bother you guys that some fans may opt to cheer for you at home instead of at the stadium?
DR: "No, not at all. It's going come down to what is on the field. It's great to have a sold out crowd with everyone down here yelling and screaming but right now we have to focus on the people on the field."
