SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- New Mexico softball shutout San Diego State, 1-0, Friday night in game one of a doubleheader held at SDSU Softball Stadium. Junior Kelly Ninemire threw a complete game against the Aztecs allowing four hits. Offensively, freshman Katie Gilmore was 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Lobos go to 16-17 with the win and 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference. SDSU fell to 27-20 overall and 3-8 in league play.
UNM plated its only run in the top of the sixth inning after junior Lindsey Elcess led off with a single to center. Senior Jennifer Deitrich came on to pinch run and eventually scored on a ground out by Gilmore.
Gilmore led UNM at the plate with two hits and an RBI. It was Gilmore's ninth multiple hit game of her career. Elcess was 1-for-3 and extended her hitting streak to seven games.
SDSU threatened in the third and seventh innings but stellar defensive play by UNM killed all rally attempts.
