New Mexico vs. TCU

New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
On New Mexico's defensive effort and shooting
"I thought we played very good defense in the second half, and then started hitting some shots. Our shooting in the first half was pretty poor; you can't beat a team like [TCU] shooting poorly. They're a very talented team and they probably have eight or nine players that can score in double figures. You really don't know who to guard at times because they can all shoot well. We mixed up our defenses. We went with a zone, a press, and then a man to man. At the end we were in a zone press on a make, and a man-to-man on a miss. Sometimes they weren't sure what we were in so that was pretty successful. Had we shot a little better it would have been a nicer victory but I'm obviously happy to beat them. They're a very talented team."

On defending Emily Carter
"I thought we did a good job on Carter. That was our focus. Before the game, we felt that we couldn't take them all out of the mix because there are a lot of good scorers on their team. We felt that we might be able to get to Carter because she was their leading scorer coming in. She's a shooter and she doesn't usually drive. We tried to guard her face-to-face, get up close, and give her a hard time. She had 12 points but was only four for 15, so that was a pretty decent strategy."

On Eileen Weissmann
"She's physical and she sets screens. She'll take on whatever role she needs to for the success of the team. I appreciate blue-collar kids like that because they make the team a lot better."

New Mexico senior forward Eileen Weissmann
On scoring a career-best 17 points today
"I'm a player who doesn't need to have the points or the most rebounds. I just go out and I play. If I score the most points that day, then so be it."

New Mexico senior guard Amy Beggin
On New Mexico's shooting
"We weren't shooting the ball really well in the first half, especially from the three point line. I think we were getting a little happy shooting the three. We were trying to move it around and once we get those easy baskets, they have to sink in a little bit. That opens it up again for the three."

TCU head coach Jeff Mittie
On the defense of both teams
They had trouble with their zone in the first half so we mixed a couple things in. We made some mistakes because we'd trap, and then didn't rotate to Beggin. She made us pay in the corner. Weissmann was huge for them in the middle part of the second half.

On New Mexico's defense and the crowd down the stretch
"You know coming in that it's going to be a great atmosphere. Their defense was very good down the stretch. We thought we had a couple of open looks to cut it to three that we didn't hit. Hitting those shots would have made it a one-possession game."
