ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico senior midfielder Erchen Theys was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic all-District VI second-team, it was announced today by the organization.
Theys, hailing from Langdorp, Belgium, is a business marketing major with a 3.86 G.P.A. She has played in 18 games this year, including 11 starts. She has one assist and has attempted 17 shots this season.
Theys has made the UNM history books for both career and single-season records. For her career, she is fifth all-time with her 103 shots. Her one assist moves her into a tie with junior midfielder LeAnne Hendren for eight career assists. Theys stands in seventh place with 29 career points and is tied for fifth with her four game-winning goals. She is 9th in UNM single-season record for points with her 16 in 2002.
Last year she was selected to the Academic All-America Second Team honoree and Academic All-America District IV first team. She is a three-time Mountain West Conference All-Academic Team member as well.
Theys and the rest of the Lobos are in action at the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sixth-seeded New Mexico takes on second-seeded BYU at 2 p.m. in the semifinals today.
