ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- It wasn't exactly a night of perfection for Lobo Coach Jeremy Fishbein because Columbia did score a goal to become the first New Mexico opponent to place a ball in the UNM net this season.

And Fishbein doesn`t like to give up goals.

But there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Lobos` first half as they exploded for four goals on four shots to power to a 4-0 halftime lead. As far as UNM's shooting went in the first 90 minutes, it was a half of perfection.

UNM won 5-1 and will play Cal State Northridge at 1 p.m., Sunday for bragging rights in the TLC Plumbing, Heating Cooling/Lobo Invitational being played at the Lobo Soccer Complex. The Matadors also were hot Friday night as they powered to a 3-0 win over the Missouri State Bears.

The Lobos' dead-eye accuracy in the first half was exactly the type of shooting -- and finishes -- that Fishbein said his Lobos needed to make the season of 2011 an exceptional one. The Lobos launched four times and bent Columbia's netting four times.

Really, it was a Lobo explosion -- four goals in a span of approximately 16 minutes.

Devon Sandoval struck first for the Lobos netting his first goal of 2011 at the 21:16 mark. He was assisted by James Rogers. Rogers then used a burst of speed and skills to scored unassisted at the 24:29 mark of the first half.

It's always nice in soccer to get that two goal lead because it gives you the luxury of making a mistake on defense, but still keeping the lead. The Lobos made it really easy on themselves in the first half by getting two more goals - one by Giovanni Rollie and the game's fourth goal by Levi Rossi.

You almost wondered if Coach Fishbein would take the second half off and go catch a movie. His Lobos were on a roll and making it a night of no pressure for the UNM coach.

Columbia's Quentin Grigsby woke up the Lobos at the 56:22 mark of the second half by violating the UNM net for the first time this season. The 3-0-1 Lobos added a fifth goal at 69:33 when Blake Smith scored off an assist from Sandoval. Sandoval and Rogers each had a goal and an assist on the night.

The Lobos ended the game with eight shots on goal off 11 shots, with five goals. Not bad. Columbia had nine shots with one shot on goal -- the one that went in.

The Lobos weren't really tested Friday night, but the Northridge Matadors should be a tougher test. Northridge got goals from Taylor Bowlin, Edwin Rivas and Yarden Azuleay. Northridge led 1-0 at the half and added two goals in the second 90 minutes to post the 3-0 win.
