LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior Divan Coetzee and junior David Kowalski's run at the ITA Mountain Regional singles championship is still alive as the pair advances to the quarterfinal round in Las Vegas, Nev.
Coetzee, seeded second in the tournament, downed the No. 19 seeded Nils Klemann of Boise State, 6-4, 6-0. He will face UNLV's Henner Nehles, seeded ninth, in the quarterfinal round on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Seventh seeded Kowalski netted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Boise State's James Ludlow to advance to the quarterfinals. He takes on Boise State's Guillaume Bouvier, seeded fourth, on Saturday at 10 a.m.
New Mexico's hunt for a doubles title came to an end in the round of 16 with all three doubles tandems falling in a close match.
Utah's Tomasz Grzyb and Jason Yap pulled off a huge upset as the unseeded pair knocked off the No. 1 seeded Kowalski and Ryan Stotland, 8-6. BYU's Jose Lechuga and Nima Roshan, seeded 11th, downed the sixth seeded Coetzee and freshman Hiroud Akhavan, 8-5. Senior Jasmin Hodzic and sophomore Henry Gers, seeded 10th, fell to the seventh seeded Nejc Smole and Viktor Zetterholm of Denver, 8-4.
The singles quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Saturday as well as the semifinal doubles. Both championship matches will be on Sunday. For complete results, use the link above. New Mexico results are available below.
