FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The 15th-ranked Colorado State Rams became the first team in Mountain West history to go through the regular season undefeated as they topped the New Mexico volleyball team in three games (30-11, 30-19, 30-18) Saturday night at Moby Arena. The Lobos finish the regular season with a 4-24 (1-13 MWC) mark, while the Rams head into the postseason 24-4 (14-0 MWC). The Lobos will be the eighth seed in the Mountain West Tournament and will matchup against top-seeded Colorado State Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. MT in San Diego, Calif.
The Rams shut down the Lobos offensively, only allowing 20 kills and 17 assists. Sophomore Chelsea Sondrup (Lindon, Utah) led UNM with five kills and a block, freshman Kelly Therkelsen (Eagan, Minn.) produced four blocks and junior Adah Burke (Las Cruces, N.M.) had 11 digs. A night after setting the school record with 36 kills against Wyoming, senior Anna Reines (Big Lake, Minn.) was limited to four kills and three blocks. Freshman Lindsay Smith (Bakersfield, Calif.) gave regular starting setter Monica Meihack (Fallon, Nev.) the night off and delivered a team-high 16 assists.
Bri Frech led CSU with eight kills. The Rams collected 9.5 team blocks and had 13 service aces for the match while hitting .282.
