COMMENTS FROM UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO HEAD COACH Rocky Long
"We ended up signing more junior college players than we originally planned, but we really believe it will help the program. We knew we had to recruit several junior college guys, especially on the defensive line and at wide receiver. When we started recruiting the junior colleges, we found more players out there who we thought could help us. We were going to sign seven or eight (junior college transfers), but we ended up signing 12. As for the high school signees, we kind of spread them across the board, but we have 15 who we think are very good athletes and will be a good fit for the University of New Mexico. Overall, I think we addressed the needs of the program for the 2004 season and the next four to five years."
