Postgame Quotes
New Mexico vs. New Mexico State
Dec. 5, 2009

New Mexico head coach Steve Alford

"Well, obviously a very good win for us. To force a team into 31 turnovers, the disappointing thing is that they're even in the game with five minutes to go. Every young team has to battle through some things."

"For whatever reason, playing this opponent we get casual when we get a big lead. I thought we did that tonight and it affected us in the second half, but, again, this team found a way to do what they needed to do to secure the win."

"We had a long discussion here after the game because I think the one thing I learned from my collegiate coach (Bob Knight) is that we learn maybe some of our most valuable lessons in wins."

"I thought we played really well in the first half. I thought we played poorly in the second half."

"I think we have incredible room for growth. Yea, we are eight and zero and things are going good, but this team can really improve in a lot of areas."

On the play of senior Roman Martinez
"He was the best player of the floor and I'm just glad he is on my team."

On the play of sophomore A.J. Hardeman
"He was brilliant. Outside of Ro (Martinez), he has been our most consistent player this season."

New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies

On the main ingredient for the Aggies' second-half surge:
"Patience and just trying to be a little smarter with taking care of the ball. There was a stretch there where we weren't turning it over. It wasn't a long stretch but it was a stretch enough to get us an opportunity to try to get some stops and break out, try to drive and get to the line."

On the performance of Gordo Castillo:
"Gordo still didn't knock the three ball with any consistency. But, the thing that he did do was show that he's more than just a shooter. He went in and rebounded and pulled down five boards, got fouled on a couple of threes, made his free throws and was just much more active... He just played better."

On rebounding:
"We were down 20-17 at the half, so we really challenged them there. I was glad to see that was one of the reasons that we were able to mount some kind of run."
