ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. - Lightning three quarters through the second round drew play to a premature close Friday afternoon at the 55th Annual William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
Play will resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with the field completing the second round before starting the final round. Pairings for the final round will remain the same as for the first two rounds.
New Mexico sits in 10th place at 12-over-par entering Saturday's finale, 28 strokes behind leader UNLV at 16-under. San Diego State (9-under), Pepperdine (2-under) Baylor (2-under) and Texas A&M (even par) round out the top five.
Ryan Smith, playing as an individual, leads the Lobos at even-par through 12 holes of the second round and sits in a tie for 17th place. Air Force's Tom Whitney is the individual leader at 10-under par. UNLV's Derek Ernst and Baylor's Payne Gniewek are tied for second place at 7-under, while New Mexico State's Timothy Madigan, UNLV's Colby Smith, and San Diego State's Andrew Cooley are tied for fourth place at 6-under.
New Mexico's Ryan Gay, Eduardo Chavez and Nick Geyer are all tied for 31st place at 2-over. James Erkenbeck is tied for 41st place at 3-over, Brandon Putnam and Travis Ross are tied for 51st place at 4-over, John Catlin is tied for 55th at 5-over, Shane McDonald is tied for 61st at 6-over, Tom Carlson is tied for 69th at 7-over, Sam Chavez is tied for 84th at 9-over, Alex Zannes is tied for 92nd at 11-over and James Gehrke is tied for 95th at 12-over.
