Lobo Cross Country Teams Head to Notre Dame Invitational This Weekend

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- The Lobo cross country team will head to South Bend, Ind. for the 55th annual Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 1. The meet, to be held at the Notre Dame Golf Course, will host men's and women's teams from 48 schools.

The Lobos have a good weekend to look forward to after claiming 2nd and 3rd at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. Nicholas Kipruto received runner-up honors at the meet with a posted time of 23:59.6. The time earned Kipruto the Mountain West Conference athlete of the week title for cross country. He will compete again this weekend with the team as they head to South Bend.

The women's team, currently ranked No.12, will have the first race of the day for the Lobos. The women's blue division 5k race will start at 3:15 MST. The No.16 Lobo men's team will follow with the blue division 8k race beginning at 4:00 MST.

Both the men and women will compete against top ranked teams at the invite. Oregon (No.3), Alabama (No.5), Villanova (No.14), and Arizona State (No.18) will all compete in the men's division. The women's division will be headed by Villanova (No.1), Florida State (No.2), Washington (No.3), Oregon (No.5), and Princeton (No.8).

In 2009 the UNM men's team placed 3rd overall while Lobo Jacob Kirwa won the blue division individual title with a time of 23:44.
