ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball split a doubleheader Saturday with Utah Valley State in the home opener at Lobo Field. Junior Kelly Ninemire highlighted the Lobos performance in game one with a complete game three-hitter. UNM beat the Wolverines, 3-0, in the opener and dropped the nightcap, 5-3. The Lobos played in front of 1,348 fans and had one of the greatest attendances in school history. UNM moves to 6-10 as team and UVSC goes to 9-13 overall.

UNM plated its first run in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Lindsey Elcess led off the inning with a single to left field and came around to score on an RBI single down the left field line by junior Ashley Allen.

Senior Amy Ray scored a run for UNM in the third inning on a Utah Valley State fielding error. Freshman Katie Gilmore plated the final run in the sixth after blasting her team-leading third home run of the year to left center.

Ninemire cruised through the Wolverines lineup in game one. In seven innings of work, Ninemire did not allow a walk and struck out seven batters. With the win, Ninemire improves to 3-5.

Offensively in game one, Gilmore went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored. UNM plated three runs on six hits.

Utah Valley State capitalized on three home runs in game two to post a 5-3 victory. Junior Sara Roskelley hit a solo home run in the top of the first and a two-run shot in the third inning to help lift the Wolverines. In the game Roskelley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI.

The final two runs for Utah Valley State came in the sixth inning on a two-run homer over the left field fence by Corie Jensen.

UNM had opportunities throughout the game but stranded 12 runners on-base. Freshman Sara Loeffelholz and Ray led the Lobos at the plate. Both went 2-for-4 with Loeffelholz collecting an RBI. UNM out-hit UVSC, 10-8, but missed timely hits to force the action.
