TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team moved up one spot in the final round of the 14-team National Invitational Tournament to finish in sixth. The Lobos shot a final round 6-under par, 282 on the par-72, 7,094 yard OMNI Tucson National Golf Course, and finished at 16-under par (280-286-282=848) for the tournament. TCU led wire-to-wire for the team championship at 26-under par.
Individually the Lobos were led by senior Madalitso Muthiya who finished tied for 12th at 5-under par (70-70-71=211). Also finishing under par was sophomore Charlie Beljan tied for 19th at 3-under par (73-69-71=213) and junior Spencer Levin tied for 31st at 1-under par (71-75-69=215). Other UNM results were junior Jay Choi tied for 37th at even par (70-73-71=216) and senior Jay Reynolds tied for 70th at 10-over par (69-72-85=226).
The individual title went to Matt Bortis of Arkansas at 12-under par edging out Michael Putnam of Pepperdine and Matthew Rosenfelds of Texas by one stroke.
