ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- If Lindy's Sports College Football Preview is any kind of prognosticator, the University of New Mexico football team's defensive line could be a unit to watch in 2012.
Lindy's has selected UNM seniors Reggie Ellis and Joe Harris to its all-Mountain West first team defensive line. Officially, Harris is listed as an outside linebacker, but he will be utilized as the Lobos' rush end in their 3-4 scheme.
Harris, who played defensive end in last season's 4-3 alignment, led all linemen with 55 tackles. He also had four tackles for loss, one sack and a team-high four forced fumbles.
"I am greatly honored for my talents to be recognized in this fashion," Harris said. "I will put forth the effort and work hard for my team so that this award given to me will be undisputable (at season's end)."
Ellis, who moves from defensive tackle to end this season, had 16 tackles, including four for loss in 2011. The transfer from Illinois also tied Harris for the team lead in quarterback hurries with two."It's an honor." he said, "Now I have to work to get Player of the Year honors in the conference!"
The Lobos begin the 2012 season Sept. 1 at home against Southern University.
