TEMPE, Ariz. --- The University of New Mexico baseball team was able to hold off nationally-ranked Arizona State in spurts, but could not get the offense going, losing Wednesday night in Tempe, 10-1. The Lobos are now 7-3 on the season heading into this weekend's Metrodome Tournament in Minneapolis.

The Sun Devils (9-0) got on the scoreboard early, 5-0, after the first inning. Starter Ryan Escarcega (1-1) had a rough go for the Lobos, giving up three hits and five earned runs in the first two-thirds of an inning.

Lobo reliever Adam Skelton held off the Sun Devils until the fourth inning when ASU's Jason Kipnis hit a two-run home run to up the lead, 7-0. ASU picked up three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Sun Devils a 10-0 lead.

Lobo left fielder Matt Hibbitts got his second hit of the game in the top of the ninth and scored on a Rafael Neda to keep the Lobos from being shutout, 10-1.

Mike Leake (3-0) got the win for ASU, giving up only two hits and striking out eight Lobos over six innings.
