ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball is scheduled to host Utah Valley State this weekend for a three-game set at Lobo Field. The series will start Saturday with a doubleheader at 4 p.m., which will be followed with the first night game in school history. This historic weekend will feature the Lobos against the Wolverines under the newly installed lights and will give local UNM fans their first look at the softball program under the leadership of new head coach Ty Singleton. The series concludes Sunday with a single-game at noon.

UNM (5-9) will face the Wolverines (8-12) for the second consecutive year after sweeping two doubleheaders last year. The Lobos lead the overall series 4-0 and are coming off a championship game appearance at the Jayhawk Classic last weekend in Lawrence, Kan. UNM pulled out three wins at the tournament last week against North Dakota State and beat Drake twice.

The Lobos have a new aggressive style of play under the direction of Singleton. Singleton's guidance has helped UNM score 57 runs and record 24 stolen bases in 29 attempts. The Lobos are hitting .237 as a team through 14 games with 50 RBI.

Junior Lindsey Elcess leads the team with a .325 batting average. She has started every game and has played the last nine games at first. UNM has six players hitting over .250 and has helped the offense generate four runs a game. The Lobos have gone with three pitchers this season, including junior transfer Kelly Ninemire (2-5), freshman Tori Rogers (3-1) and senior Caley Peterson (0-3).

Utah Valley State is led by Heidi Boyer, who leads the team with a .471 batting average in 19 games. Boyer has 24 hits, 4 doubles and a home run this year. The Wolverines have three players hitting over .300 and have hit 11 home runs with 23 doubles as a team. Corie Jensen (3-4) and Jackie Roberts (3-4) are the two primary pitchers with Ashly Forsberg (1-3) and Boyer (1-1) receiving time in the circle.

Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and watch the game behind the outfield fence. There will also be a free clinic offered by the UNM softball team following the second game of the doubleheader Saturday. Tickets are available through the UNM ticket office with a 2-for-1 special this weekend.

Gametracker will be provided for all games along with all-access video through www.GoLobos.com. Complete recaps and stats will be posted online following the games.
