TEMPE, Ariz. - The New Mexico softball team needed only six innings to down the Western Michigan Broncos (0-2) 8-0 at the Fiesta Bowl Softball Tournament, hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.

Sophomore Stephanie Kennedy got the Lobos on the board in the first inning with her first home run of the season. New Mexico scored a total of four runs in the first.

Sophomore Iraina Ogas added an insurance run in the fifth with her solo home run make the Lobos lead 5-0. New Mexico would go on to score three more runs in the sixth, ending the game on the eight-run mercy rule. Junior Cassie Chavez had two doubles in the game while Kennedy had one.

Picking up her second win of the season, senior Amy Dumas tossed her first shut out of the season, allowing just three hits.

New Mexico, now 3-3, will face No. 20 Arizona State at 2:30 PST today.
