Lobos Tied for the Lead After One Round at the William H. Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team played a little over a round and a half of golf today at the William H. Tucker Invitational. The second round of play was stopped due to darkness and will be finished tomorrow morning. Second round scores are currently unofficial. The Lobos finished in a tie for the lead with Texas Tech after one round at 2-under par. UNM shot a 286 on the par-72, 7,354 yard UNM Championship Course.

Individually for UNM, senior Charlie Beljan shot a first round 5-under par 67 to take the individual lead. Other Lobo first round results were sophomore Nick Geyer carded a 1-under par 71, junior Robb Bierbaum and sophomore Steve Saunders posted 2-over par 74s and freshman Brandon Putnam shot an 8-over par 80.

The New Mexico silver team also played well and was sixth at 3-over par after the first round. Individually the silver team was led by freshman Kyle Nielsen with an opening round 2-under par 70. Other silver team results were sophomore Dan Saltz carded an even par 72, freshman Sean McNamara shot a 1-over par 73, sophomore Jacob Lestishen posted a 4-over par 76 and sophomore Guillermo Chavez shot a 7-over par 79.

The second round will conclude tomorrow at the UNM Championship Course with players going off at 7:30 a.m. The final round will start immediately after the second round and players will just continue play starting at the same hole as the first two rounds.
