Lobos End Day One At Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Senior Jasmin Hodzic and sophomores Nick Ames and Henry Gers ended competition today in day one of the 2003 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships prequalification round in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Hodzic started the day against Georgia Tech's Zachary Rath in the round of 256. Hodzic slid past Rath, 6-4; 7-5 to advance to the round of 128. Rice's Rodrigo Gabriel proved to be to much as he downed Hodzic, 6-4; 6-1.

Gers opened the tournament with a 6-3; 6-3 win over John Hangstefer of Tennessee-Chattanooga in the round of 256. Louisiana-Lafayette's Evgheni Corduneau netted a 6-1; 6-3 win over Gers in the round of 128.

Ames fell in a heartbreaker to Tennessee-Chattanooga's Marian Axente, 5-7; 6-4; 7-6 (1), in the round of 258.

The Lobos will continue play tomorrow in the doubles prequalification round. The tandem of Hodzic and Gers will take on Rishan Kurpuppr and Andreas Siljestrem of Middle Tennessee tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. eastern.
