COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- New Mexico women's soccer has been picked fifth in the preseason poll released today by the conference office. The Lobos, which finished with an 8-7-5 overall record last season, return three seniors and a wealth of talented young players. UNM is coming off back-to-back winning seasons and finished tied for third in the league standings last year. BYU and Utah were selected to share the MWC title according to the poll.
The Cougars and Utes collected 46 points and four first-place votes apiece to capture the top spot in the poll. UNLV, last year's MWC Tournament Champion, collected 37 points to earn the third spot. San Diego State was picked to finish fourth with 29 points, followed by New Mexico fifth with 23 points. TCU took the sixth spot (20 points), while Wyoming (15 points) and Air Force (7 points) rounded out the top eight.
The 2007 MWC Women's Soccer Championship will take place on the BYU campus, Nov. 7-10.
