Lobos Close Day One of NCAA Championships

    DES MOINES, Iowa---Three New Mexico athletes competed at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships on Wednesday. The event features 10 Lobo athletes and will continue through Saturday.

    Sophomore Richard York is currently in 20th place in the national decathlon race with 3,782 points. Thursday will conclude the decathlon events.

    In the women's 10,000-meter run, Ruth Senior finished her time at UNM with a ninth-place spot, crossing the finish line in 35:04.52.

    Senior Alesha Walker leapt to a distance of 20-2.25 (6.15 meters) in the women's long jump to finish 18th.

    David Bishop (1,500), Keith Gerrard (10,000) and Django Lovett will be competing on Thursday for the Lobos.
