DALLAS - The sun finally came out at the Royal Oaks Country Club after two days of steady, sometimes violent rainstorms, where the University of New Mexico men's golf team finds itself closing in on a top-5 finish at the Baylor Intercollegiate.
The Lobos posted a 9-over-par 293 Tuesday morning to close the second round, putting them at 16-over and tied for fourth place heading into the third and final round.
New Mexico is currently 3-over through the first six holes of the third round, bringing its tournament total to 19-over - tied with Arkansas and 16 strokes behind team leader Texas A&M (+3).
Individually, the Lobos' James Erkenbeck is tied for 10th place at 2-over. Erkenbeck carded a 1-under 70 in the second round, but is 1-over through nine holes in the third round. He's chasing his third-straight top-10 finish.
Both John Catlin and Travis Ross are tied for 17th with five othersat 5-over coming down the final stretch of the third round. Nick Geyer is tied for 26th at 7-over, Sam Chavez is tied for 50th at 13-over and Ryan Smith is tied for 61st at 19-over.
