IRVINE, Calif. - The University of New Mexico women's swimming team finished the Speedo Cup Invitational hosted by the Univ. of California-Irvine in seventh place with 380 points. In the final day junior Robyn Miller and freshman Tori Clarridge swam to the best individual finishes, each placing fifth in their respective events.
Miller took fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.91. Also finishing in the top-25 in the 200-yard fly were senior Aimee Dunavant (16th, 2:11.33) and sophomore Jen Hale (17th, 2:10.61).
Clarridge finished fifth in the 100-yard free with a time of 52.15. Other top-25 finishers in the 100-yard free were junior Kelsey Leckovic (11th, 53.48) and sophomores Kelly Soldow (19th, 53.78) and Jenna Syverson (21st, 53.87).
In the other events of the day, freshman Ashley LaBree had the best showing for the Lobos in the 200-yard backstroke, taking 14th with a time of 2:09.97. Junior Megan Verbrugge had the top-showing in the 1,650-yard free, placing 20th with a time of 17:56.82. Freshman Andrea Zarins placed 29th for UNM in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.69.
The Lobos (1-4, 1-3 MWC) are finished for the fall semester. They will return to action Jan. 15, 2005, hosting Utah for a 1 p.m. meet.
