ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior shortstop Josh Mader (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola High School) has been named the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. This marks the first time in his career that Mader has earned the award.
Mader posted excellent numbers in road trips to No. 13 Nebraska and Utah last week, batting .409 with three homers, 10 RBI and a slugging percentage of .909. He tied a career high with five RBI by going 3-for-5, including a solo homer, at Nebraska on Tuesday, April 6.
The Albuquerque native followed that effort by hitting .462 in the Utah series, leading the Lobos to their second series win over Utah this season. In Thursday's 15-4 blowout win over the Utes, Mader went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI, including two homers in UNM's nine-run third inning. In Saturday's finale, he went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Mader currently leads the team with 29 RBI and a .375 batting average.
The New Mexico baseball team returns to action this weekend (April 16-18) for a three-game series at Air Force.
