Three-time all-MWC and all-Mountain Region honoree in cross country who will look to wrap up her fine career with a strong healthy track season...has only raced 5 times on the oval (indoors/outdoors) over the past two years due to a series of injuries, but was one of the top runners for the nationally ranked UNM women during the 2008 cross country season...her 3 all-region awards are tied for the most in program history, while the 3 all-conference awards are the second-most in program history...15 career indoor/outdoor races...had foot surgery in November of 2007 that forced her to redshirt the `07 cross country season and miss virtually all of the 2008 track campaign...6-time Academic All-MWC honoree.
2008: (cross country) Scored in 4 of her 7 races, had 3 top-20 finishes (2 top-10) and was a key runner for the nationally ranked Lobos down the stretch...earned 2nd team all-MWC honors with an 8th place (21:55) finish - 1 spot shy of a 1st team nod - at the MWC Championships...was the No. 4 runner for the champion Lobos...clocked a career-best 21:08.5 in an 18th place finish (team's No. 5) at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships to earn all-region honors...193rd (team's No. 6, 21:54.1) out of 255 runners in her NCAA Championships debut...opened the season with a 9th place finish at the Lobo Invite...Academic All-MWC.
2007-08: (outdoor) Made 1 appearance, running a 5K at Stanford (18:05.70) on April 5... (indoor) Did not compete... (cross country) Ran 5th on the team (87th overall) at Oregon in her lone meet appearance before taking a medical redshirt.
2006-07: (outdoor) Missed the first month due to injuries, but came on to finish 7th in the 5,000m at the MWC Championships, clocking a season-best 17:17.41...raced 4 times in 4 meets, winning the 5K at home in the Don Kirby Invite...Academic All-MWC... (indoor) Did not compete while recovering from several nagging injuries... (cross country) Turned in another outstanding season, earning all-region and second team all-MWC honors...was the team's No. 2 runner, behind senior Timmie Murphy, in all five meets...just missed a trip to the NCAA Championship meet, placing 18th at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Albuquerque...was 8th at the MWC meet, just one spot shy of a place on the all-conference first team...clocked a career-best 6K time of 21:13.7 at the Pre-Nationals race in Terre Haute, Ind. (57th overall)...4 top-20 finishes, including a career-high 3rd place effort to open the season at the Lobo Invite...Academic All-MWC honoree.
2005-06: (outdoor) Ranked second on the team and fourth in the MWC with a top 5,000m time of 16:52.02 (altitude adjusted), recorded en route to a win at the Don Kirby Invite in Albuquerque...was just two-hundredths of a second shy of the NCAA regional qualifying time in the event...won her first two 5K races, including her outdoor collegiate debut at UC-San Diego (17:09.70), after injuries sidelined her for the first month of the season...6th at the MWC Championships (17:21.23)...Academic all-MWC honoree... (indoor) Clocked the team's 4th-fastest 3,000m time (9:48.65) en route to a 7th place finish at the MWC Championship meet...7 races during the winter, including a pair of runner-up efforts...helped the UNM distance medley relay team earn all-MWC honors with a 3rd place finish (school record time of 11:56.70)...No. 2 on the team in the mile (5:04.63)... (cross country) Easily the team's most improved runner...finished among the Lobos' top-3 in all five meets, including a first team all-conference performance at the MWC Championships and all-region effort at the NCAA Mountain Championships...improved 41 spots on her finish at the '04 MWC meet and finished among the top-10 for the first time in her career...completed the 6K run in a then-career-best 21:17.3, nearly 2 minutes faster than her previous PR...went on to place 23rd at regionals - a 71-spot improvement from the previous year...3 top-25 finishes on the year...Academic all-MWC honoree.
2004-05: (indoor/outoor) Redshirted both seasons... (cross country) Ran with the UNM top-7 in each of her five meet appearances and was the team's fifth scoring runner at the MWC Championships...finished 25th at NMSU and clocked a season-best 6K time of 23:35.1 at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships...Academic All-MWC honoree.
2002 Albuquerque Tribune Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year, at Albuquerque Academy, under head coach Sheryl Clemmer...won four meets as a junior, including city cross country championship in a course record time of 18:53...slowed by a variety of injuries and illnesses following the city meet, but placed 10th at the 4A state cross country meet and was sixth in the 1,600 at the state track meet...rallied to take home a silver medal in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:38.5 at the 2003 National Junior Olympics...also finished 6th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:51...was third in the 3,000 as a sophomore the year before...all-city, all-district and all-state honoree in cross country from 2001-2003...also a letterwinner on the Chargers' varsity basketball team.
Born in Albuquerque, N.M...daughter of Roy and Emma Luna...dad, Roy, ran cross country and track at New Mexico State University...major is Exercise Science.
