Steve Hendricks is beginning his fifth season as the lead assistant with the Lobo volleyball program.

In addition to recruiting and on-court coaching responsibilities, Hendricks is responsible for scouting opponents, team travel and summer camps. While at UNM he has helped lead the Lobos to two NCAA Tournament appearances, #12 national ranking in attendance, coached 4 AVCA All-Americans, 1 ESPN/CoSida Academic All-American and the team has received two AVCA Team Academic awards. He is heavily involved in the community including serving as a clinician for Special Olympics New Mexico, is a board member for the New Mexico Juniors Volleyball Club and has coached the age groups of 14's, 15's and 16's. In 2009, the New Mexico Juniors 151 team advanced to the 2009 national championship tournament in Miami.

A coaching veteran with 18 years at the collegiate level, Hendricks assisted Jeff Nelson in leading the University of San Francisco to two of its best seasons on record in 2005 and 2006. While in San Francisco his community involvement included leading a support group "Friends and Family Members of Crystal Meth Users." He spent eight seasons as the lead assistant coach at Notre Dame, a perennial top-25 program. While at South Bend, Hendricks helped guide the Irish to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and seven Big East Conference championships. The Irish won seven NCAA Tournament matches, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1997. His recruiting acumen was proven once again in 2002 when StudentSports.com rated the Notre Dame recruiting class No. 3 nationally.

In addition to his coaching and recruiting duties with the Irish, Hendricks represented the Big East Conference on the AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee. He also acted as head coach of the men's club volleyball team leading them to the NIRSA Championships seven of his eight seasons.

In 2003 Hendricks took an administrative leadership role at St. Ignatius College Prep as Assistant Athletic Director. His duties included overseeing daily operations of the athletic programs and leading the Girl's volleyball program. While in the Chicago area he also directed the USA Volleyball Great Lakes Region High Performance Team to a fourth-place finish in the national tournament in 2003, and propelled Celtic Force Volleyball Club 17's (Palos Heights, IL.) to the 2004 National Championship. In two seasons with Celtic Force, Hendricks posted a 52-3 overall record.

Hendricks began his coaching career after a standout playing career at Ball State University. As an outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Cardinals, Hendricks competed in three consecutive NCAA Final Four Championships (1988-90). Hendricks' first collegiate coaching experience came at Tennessee, where he served as a graduate assistant and interim head coach from 1990-92. This led him to two seasons at Eastern Michigan as an assistant coach (1992-94).

Hendricks earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Ball State in 1990 and a master's in Sports Psychology at Tennessee in 1992. He is on schedule to complete an additional masters in Sport Administration in May 2011 from the University of New Mexico. He is a CAP Level II coach with USA Volleyball and a certified personal trainer through ISSA.
