Kari Zimmerly served during the 2012-13 season as assistant women's golf coach at the University of New Mexico.
Zimmerly, the former Kari Hunter, was a four-year letterwinner for the Lobos golf team from 1990-93, earning all-conference honors as a sophomore in 1991. She played 54 collegiate rounds at UNM. The Lobos won the Western Athletic Conference team title in 1993.
Zimmerly received her bachelor's degree from UNM in Communications and Journalism in 1993.
Zimmerly came to UNM after nine years at Hope Christian School in Albuquerque where she taught 3- and 4-year-olds and served as the assistant director of the pre-school. Zimmerly was named Hope Christian's Teacher of the Year in 2009.
Zimmerly taught golf as part of UNM Continuing Education and also gave private lessons. She spent four years at Four Hills Country Club in Albuquerque, serving as the pro shop manager and running junior camps. Zimmerly was also banquet manager and in charge of tournament operations at Paradise Hills Golf Club in Albuquerque.
While attending UNM, Zimmerly worked summers at the Hank Haney Golf Ranch at Stonebridge Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
Wright's father, Sam, was a member of the UNM men's golf team (1961-65) that won three conference championships. He was on the staff that opened the UNM Championship Golf Course (then UNM South) in 1966.
