Assistant Coach

First Season

Jimmy Hernandez enters his first year as the assistant coach for the New Mexico Softball program. Hernandez brings a wealth of experience into the position and will primarily work with the infielders.

Prior to joining the New Mexico staff, Hernandez was the head coach at New Mexico Highlands. While at Highlands, Hernandez led the Cowgirls to a 54-58 record in three seasons. He led NMHU to a fifth play finish in conference in 2005, qualified for the 2005 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs and placed third in 2005.

Hernandez coached the ASA New Mexico Scorpions travel team in Albuquerque from 1999 - 2004. He also coached at Valley High School (2002-04) and St. Pius High School (1996-2002) prior to joining the collegiate ranks.

He is a retired Albuquerque Police Officer serving the City of Albuquerque from 1988 - 2005.

Hernandez was born and raised in Albuquerque. Married to Sandra and has three kids, Monique, Victoria and Jimmy Jr.
