Liz Bainter begins her fourth season as an assistant coach for the University of New Mexico and ninth season coaching with head coach Kim Newbern. Bainter works primarily in the area of practice planning, game preparation and with the outfielders and catchers along with managing external affairs.

Bainter finished her collegiate softball career in 1997 at Washburn University where she played as a catcher for one season under Newbern. The following season, Bainter joined Newbern on the coaching staff by becoming the assistant at Washburn. The two coached together at Washburn for five years before coming to New Mexico.

Prior to playing at Washburn, Bainter was a member of the Southern Conference championship team at UT-Chattanooga.

While at Butler County, Bainter helped her 1996 team win the Region IV Conference Championships.

A native of Salina, Kan., Bainter was a three-time all-city selection at Salina South High School. She majored in nursing at Washburn and graduated in December of 1998. Bainter worked as a medical surgical nurse for three years in Washburn. She still maintains her nursing license.
