Albuquerque, N.M. –  There were at least two lessons handed out Saturday in the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational held at the New Mexico Championship Course.

The Pepperdine Waves showed the other 15 teams exactly how to win a golf tournament.  The Wave "finished".  Pepperdine tied the tournament record for a final round by blistering the Championship Course with a 284. That tied the record set in 2009 – by Pepperdine.

The Waves’ final team card of 865 was six shots off the tournament record total of 859 – set by the Waves of 2009.  Pepperdine also did something else conducive to winning a golf  tournament.  The Waves had three golfers in the top five: Marissa Chow was second, Somin Lee tied for third and Grace Na came in fifth.

The other lesson handed out Saturday came off the hot clubs of Oregon’s Cassy Isagawa, who smoked the course with cards of 70, 68 and 69 to tie the tournament record total of 207.  Isagawa won the Branch/McGuire by six shots – 12-under for the 54 holes.

“I was just playing well,” said Isagawa in an understatement of her play.

The individual runner-up was Pepperdine’s Chow, who shot a 6-under 213 going 72, 73, 68. That 68 tied the tourney record for a score on the final 18.  Pepperdine’s Somin Lee and Sirene Blair of San Diego State both shot 215 and 2012 All-American Grace Na came in at 216.

The Lobos got hot Saturday and made a furious charge, but faded a bit on some final holes and finished eighth going 307-301-293—901.  The Lobos improved their score each day which also is something you want to see in a tournament race.

“We had it going for a while. We got hot,” said Lobo Coach Jill Trujillo.  “I like the way the girls improved each day and came out with fresh determination. They had a lot of fight in them today (Saturday).

"I saw a lot of good things out there that we can build on.  I expect big things from this team.”

Senior Sammi Stevens threw out a 70 on Saturday to top the Lobo cards at 222.  Freshman Manon Molle played well on Saturday and ended with a 71 and a 224 total.  Senior Manon De Roey ended at 226, followed by freshman Katerina Jaeger at 229 and Sofia Hoglund at 241.
