COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico senior Luke Caldwell has been named Mountain West MW Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for meets contested from Sept. 30 through Oct 6.

Caldwell, a senior from Betchworth, England, handled the competition at the Notre Dame Invitational this past Saturday in South Bend, Ind., racing to second place and leading No. 25 New Mexico to a team finish of sixth.

For his efforts, he has received the second weekly cross-country honor of his Lobo career.

At the Notre Dame Golf Course, Caldwell raced to a time of 24 minutes, 22.3 seconds, pacing New Mexico with his fifth team-leading in the last year. After finishing 12th overall at the Notre Dame Invitational in 2012, Caldwell finished less than four seconds off of an individual title this year.

His time time was also the fastest five-mile (or eight-kilometer) time in the Mountain West prior to this weekend.

Caldwell earned his first MW Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor after the 2012 Notre Dame Invitational, which he shared with Air Force runner Isaiah Bragg.

This is the fifth conference honor the Lobos have received in the last year. Josephine Moultrie was a two-time recipient in 2012, while Sean Stam earned a selection as well.

Boise State’s Emma Bates earned this week’s award on the women’s side
