ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –Dominique Dulski and Natasha Smith are advancing to the semifinal round of the 2013 ITA Mountain Regionals Doubles championship after four long days of battling in Las Vegas, Nev.
The University of New Mexico duo defeated the University of Neavada-Reno’s Michelle Okhremchuk and Shelia Smiley, 8-3, in the fourth round of the 64 Draw Doubles bracket on Saturday morning.
“Natasha and Dominique came out firing today and I couldn’t be more proud of the effort they put forth to get the win,” said head coach Erica Jasper. “Tomorrow’s semifinal will be exceptionally tough, so they’ll have to bring that same aggressiveness and determination from the first point.”
Unfortunately, Misa Bezdickova and Lizette Blankers’ time at the ITA Mountain Regionals came to an end on Saturday after they came up short against Wyoming’s Veronica Popovici (No. 8 seed) and Dorottya Jonas, 8-6. The Lobo duo battled through four tough rounds in the doubles bracket.
“Obviously Misa and LIzette were disappointed with their result today, however they had a great run here and should be proud of their efforts,” said Jasper.
Smith and Dulski are the only UNM competitors left in the Mountain Regional tournament.
Regional play will continue on Sunday morning. Semifinals matches and finals matches are both scheduled for Sunday.
