ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Winter Break was no break for three of four of New Mexico’s recent signees who have continued to compete in the water. The upcoming Lobo swimmers, Morgan Ginnis, Celine Bertrand, and Madison Burns all participated in meets throughout the holiday recess.

Morgan Ginnis appeared in a close-to-home meet, Pacific Northwest Washington State Senior SC Champs, where she swam in three different events.

Ginnis competed in the 200-freestyle and recorded a time of 1:53.01 in the preliminaries and 1:50.93 in the finals. Her preliminary and final times for the 50-freestyle were 23.21 and 22.99, respectively. She finished in the 100-freestyle preliminaries at 51.71 and in the finals at 50.90.

She also participated in the top meet for age groups 18 and under in USA Swimming along with nearly 200 other competitors. The 2013 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships were held in Greensboro, N.C. There, Ginnis raced in the short-course yard events with King Aquatics under Coach Doug Djang. She clocked in the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, and 200-freestyle at 23.42, 51.95, and 1:54.21, respectively. Her time in the 200 IM stood at 2:09.00.

Morgan Ginnis further contributed to a NAG record setting relay in the 200 medley relay where she split a 22.3 in the 50-freestyle.

New Mexico’s international signee, Celine Bertrand, competed in the European Short Course Championships. Bertrand represented Sweden after her performance in early November where she qualified at the Swedish Short Course Meters (SCM) Championships.

In the short course meter events she collected a time of 2:12.05 in the 200-fly, 4:12.86 in the 400-freestyle, and finished at 4:46.75 in the 400 IM.

The SCM serves as the top meet held in Europe during the winter season.

Local Lobo, Madison Burns, competed in two events at the Chesapeake Elite Invite in Oklahoma City, OK. She came in with a time of 23.85 in the preliminaries and 23.85 in the finals for the 50-freestyle. Burns finished in the 100-freestyle at 52.72 and 52.54 in the preliminaries and finals, respectively.

The future Lobo swimmers along with diver, Rachel Colman, are expected to bring elevated and fresh competition. They will officially claim a spot with the New Mexico team for the 2014-2015 season.
