ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team has scheduled an exhibition against the Colorado Rapids reserve team of the MLS for Sunday, March 30 at 11 a.m. (MST) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Sunday’s match will be New Mexico’s exhibition opener of the 2014 spring season.
The match replaces New Mexico’s first scheduled exhibition against Phoenix F.C., which was cancelled when the semi-professional club stopped its day-to-day operations. The Rapids’ reserve team will feature Colorado Rapids Academy players, players on trial with the MLS club and members of the Rapids’ first team who don’t participate in the club’s match the night before. Colorado will host Sporting KC on Saturday, March 29.
The Lobos’ match against the Colorado Rapids will be the first of the spring exhibition season. New Mexico has four other spring exhibitions scheduled including a home match on April 12 at 10:30 a.m. versus Air Force at the Robertson Practice Fields. The schedule also includes a pair of exhibitions in Taos, N.M. against Denver University on April 5 at 11:00 a.m. and Fort Lewis College on April 19 at 1:00 p.m. The Lobos will wrap up the spring with versus F.C. Tucson of the Professional Developmental League (PDL) in Tucson, Ariz. on May 3. All listed match times are Mountain (MST) and match dates for spring exhibitions are on Saturdays with the exception of the Sunday exhibition in Colorado.
UNM’s match with the Colorado Rapids is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday at Field 20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. Admission is free for fans wishing to attend.
