Coach Dils Named MW Coach of the Year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Mountain West has named New Mexico men’s tennis head coach Alan Dils as the 2014 MW Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year as announced on Thursday. This is Dils’ fifth coach of the year award in his eighteen years at UNM.

"This was very unexpected and I am very humbled," Dils said. "There were many good candidates this year in our conference for various reasons, so I feel very lucky. I also want to congratulate ex-Lobo Ryan Scotland for getting the award on the women's side."

The Lobos, coached by Dils and associate head coach Bart Scott, finished the 2014 season with an impressive 20-8 record. The Lobos made it to their third consecutive appearance in the conference championship match where they finished in second place.

Additionally, Dils coached the men’s tennis team past 5 NCAA Championship participants this season.The Lobos were ranked as high as fifty-sixth in this season's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

Dils also won the MW Coach of the Year award in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2009. He holds the highest winning record at 260-169 and is the longest tenured coach in program history. Dils, who became head coach in 1996, has also led the Lobos to five conference titles.
