Albuquerque, N.M. --- University of New Mexico head ski coach Fredrik Landstedt has announced that Swedish alpine skier Sara Ottosson has signed a letter-of-intent and will join the squad for the 2014-15 season.
Ottosson joins fellow Swede Carl-johan Oester (alpine) and Germany’s Jessica Gnuechtel (Nordic) as signees for the 2014-15 season. Ottosson, from Ostersund, Sweden, gives UNM another weapon in a very deep arsenal of women’s downhill racers, a group that includes All-Americans Karoline Myklebust, Courtney Altringer and Mateja Robnik along with talented sophomores Taylor Grauer and Sydney Staples.
Over the last season in Sweden, Ottosson has brought in some solid results, including a great double at the Swedish National Junior Championships, finishing second in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom on back-to-back days in March. Sara also opened March with a pair of podium finishes, including a pair of blistering runs in what turned out to be an eventual second place showing in the slalom.
In the 2014 FIS season, Ottosson has five podium finishes, four of which are in the slalom. She opened her 2014 with a podium finish in the giant slalom at Hassela.
Ottosson turned in an amazing 2013 season that saw her finish in the top 10 in 10 straight races over four countries, including two titles in a pair of slalom races at Bydalsfjaellen in her native Sweden. Overall she had a run of 13 top 10s in 17 races, including five slalom titles.
