ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico women’s basketball coach Yvonne Sanchez has restocked her staff with the announcement of two more positions filled this week.

Sanchez has elevated Jourdan Erskine to director of operations. The former Lobo spent the 2013-14 season as the team’s video coordinator. She replaces Amy Beggin, whom Sanchez promoted earlier this month to assistant coach.

Erskine was a four-year standout for New Mexico from 2009-2013. She was a team captain as a senior and one of the team's leaders in rebounds during her last two seasons under Sanchez. Her career highlights include an 18-rebound performance vs. North Texas on Nov. 23, 2012 in The Pit. The Saginaw, Mich., native also was an Academic All-Mountain West selection at UNM.

Erskine graduated from New Mexico in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

“Already, Jourdan has shown an eagerness to gain as much knowledge as she can about the inner workings of a women’s college basketball program,” Sanchez said. “I’m eager to watch her continue to develop in her career.”

To fill Erskine’s roll, Sanchez has hired former West Las Vegas High School standout Vera Jo Bustos as video coordinator. Previously, Bustos served as an assistant coach at Western State Colorado University for two seasons.

Before playing professionally in Greece in 2011-12, Bustos enjoyed a stellar career at Adams State. She was a two-time honorable mention All-America, was the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,859 points, games started (105) and minutes played (3,805). She averaged 17.5 points per game for her career and still holds the school record for most points in a game (36) and a half (27) and 3-pointers in a game (eight).

A 3A All-State performer at West Las Vegas, Bustos holds the school career records for points (2,098), rebounds (935), assists (536), steals (331) and games started (125).

“It’s always an added benefit to bring in someone who has pride in New Mexico,” Sanchez said. “Vera Jo has a wealth of experience that should be a great asset to our program.”
