ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's soccer team exploded onto the scene in 2013 in its first season in Conference USA. The Lobos won the regular season title and advanced all the way to the College Cup in the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Notre Dame.

The Lobos don't only excel on the field, however, as they also boasted the highest GPA among all men's soccer teams in the conference at 3.495. That GPA ranked third highest among all men's teams in all of Conference USA's sports.

"I'm really proud of our players commitment to excellence: academic, in the community and on the playing field," UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. "As a coach, I can't ask for anything more. I love our team."

UNM had 23 student-athletes make C-USA's Academic Honor Roll in April, becoming one of just two C-USA men’s soccer programs to have more than 20 student-athletes recognized. Also, six student-athletes earned a C-USA Academic Medal for maintaining a GPA better than 3.75.

Defenders Kyle Venter and Nick Miele were named to the Academic All-Conference USA team, and Venter and James Rogers were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team in November. Miele and Rogers went on to earn NSCAA Scholar All-Region honors, and Venter took home an NSCAA Scholar Athlete award at season’s end.
