Release:  08/03/2014

It was déjà vu for ex-Lobo Manon De Roey in the Belgium Women’s National Stroke Play Championship.  She won it by two strokes in the summer of 2013.  She won again by two strokes this past week.

De Roey, from Schilde, Belgium, shot a four-round card of 278 going 71-69-69-69 to beat out Belgium’s Fanny Cnops by two shots. Cnops had a two-shot lead on De Roey after 18 holes, but ballooned to a 75 on the second day while De Roey was turning in the first of her three consecutive 69s.  The third-place golfer, Hada Lieman, was ten shots behind De Roey.

The win at the Belgium Stroke Play Championships adds another impressive entry for De Roey's resume, who likely will make a bid to play on the Belgium Olympic Team as well as the Ladies’ European Tour.

De Roey, who finished her collegiate eligibility as a Lobo in 2013-14, already has a top ten finish in two other prestigious European events this summer.  She was No. 5 at the St. Rule Trophy held at St. Andrews in Scotland and finished ninth at the 2014 International European Ladies Amateur Championship.

The European Ladies Amateur is considered one of the premier amateur events in women’s golf as it attracts the top golfers from more than 20 countries. De Roey finished in the No. 10 spot in the 2013 European Amateur. De Roey was the 2013 Mountain West individual champion while playing at UNM.
