ALBUQUERUQUE, N.M. --- Lobo fans will have a familiar voice to listen to this year on the Lobo Radio Network.  DonTrell Moore, the all-time leading rusher in University of New Mexico history will join Voice of the Lobos Robert Portnoy as the new color analyst for Lobo football games this fall.

Moore spent last season as the co-host of the Lobo Tailgate Pregame Show with Scott Stiegler, and now he will move to the other side of University Drive to call all of the exciting action.  Having a running back analyzing Lobo football, which has now averaged over 300 yards on the ground per game in each of the last two seasons, should give fans a more in-depth look at what the team is doing on the gridiron.

“This was a no-brainer for me,” said Moore.  “Making the transition to the broadcast booth is a little easier because of the jersey I wore.  Being able to discuss the plays and the players, knowing how hard they have to work, that really gets my juices going.”

Moore is also excited to get a first-hand look, at home and on the road, of head coach Bob Davie’s third season, one that quietly is being talked about with great promise.  “It’s his third year and his mentality reflects in the team on the field.  You can see his discipline on and off the field with the attitude and mindset.  Also, this is the year that you can really see his recruiting take hold as he has three years of players out there on the field.”

For Kyle James, the General Manager of Lobo Sports Properties, hiring Moore to replace George Carter on the microphone was a no-brainer.  “DonTrell Moore was the first name that came up every time I asked folks in the community and here within the athletic department.  We are excited to have a native New Mexican and an all-time Lobo great be the new color analyst for the Lobo Football Radio Network.”

Robert Portnoy, on working with DonTrell, “I am so excited to have a Lobo Football icon in the booth with me.  His passion and knowledge for the game and his understanding of what it means to wear the Cherry and Silver will bring so much to the Lobo Football broadcast.”

Moore finished his career in 2005 as the school’s all-time leading rusher with 4,973 yards over his four seasons.  Moore also owns the single-season freshman, sophomore and senior records for yards in a season, and he is the only player in school history with four straight 1,000 yard seasons.  His 51 career rushing touchdowns is easily the school record, 17 more than second place.

He also set a school record with 19 rushing touchdowns in 2003, and he owns four of the top 10 single season marks for rushing attempts and he is the only player in school history with over 1,000 career attempts.

The Lobo Radio Network contains 19 stations and enables Lobo Football to be broadcast across the state of New Mexico and into Texas, Colorado, Utah and Arizona.

NOTE: Due to a prior commitment, Scott Stiegler will serve as the color commentator on August 30 vs. UTEP.
