ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - With the 2014 NCAA men's soccer season set to begin Friday, Soccer America released its list of Preseason All-Americans, and it included UNM's Kevin Correa.
A junior from Flushing, N.Y., Correa is in his first year with the Lobos after spending the previous two seasons at St. Francis (N.Y.). He tallied 24 goals and nine assists in his time with the Terriers, including 13 goals and and six assists last season. That earned him an NSCAA/Continental Tire Third Team All-America honor.
He finished sixth in the NCAA in points per game (1.68), eighth in total points (32) and ninth in both total goals (13) and goals per game (0.68). He scored two goals in a game four times last season, including both of the Terriers' games in the Northeast Conference Tournament.
The Lobos are expecting big things out of Correa, who was also named to the MAC Hermann Watch List earlier this month, but he will have to find his role on a squad loaded with talent.
"This is going to be a different environment for him," UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. "He's going to be surrounded by top-level players. His job is to make our team better, and we feel he's going to do that. He's an ambitious playmaker. ... We feel he's going to bring a dynamic presence to our team."
The No. 5 Lobos open their season tonight against the No. 13 Akron Zips at 7 at the UNM Soccer Complex. Pregame festivities begin two hours prior to kickoff, and the game will be streamed live at GoLobos.com.
