Lobo junior Sammi Stevens got off to a decent start at the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional at Stanford, Calif.
Stevens is in a group of 14 players tied for 22nd place at 2-over 73 after the first round at the Stanford Golf Course (par-71, 6,267 yards). Southern Cal's Annie Park has the individual lead at 4-under 67.
Twenty-four teams and six individuals are seeking to qualify for the NCAA Championships May 21-24 in Athens, Ga. The top eight teams and top two individuals not part of the qualifying teams will advance.
Stevens is currently tied for 11th in the individual race, although she's just three shots out of the second spot.
Teeing off in the morning, Stevens had a sluggish start. She bogeyed the first two holes and was 3 over after a bogey at No. 6. However, she played the final 12 holes in 1 under to finish with a 73.
Stevens begins second-round play Friday at 1:45 p.m. Mountain Time.
