NEW MEXICO: A junior college transfer who made an immediate impact in 2013 and will look to build on his production during his senior year in 2014 ... possesses a quick burst and has a variety of moves to penetrate the opponents’ backfield ... should benefit significantly from the size the Lobos have added to to the interior of the defensive line in the offseason and has the potential to become one of the elite pass rushers in the Mountain West ... a steely demeanor with a strong work ethic on and off the field ... a 2013 fall Academic All-Mountain West honoree.

2013 (JUNIOR): Originally slated as an outside linebacker but his physicality allowed UNM to move him to defensive end with impressive results ... a 2013 All-Mountain West honorable mention after leading the Lobos with nine tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles ... the forced fumbles tied for 25th in the nation ... also led the Lobo defensive linemen in tackles per game with an average of 3.4 ... 37 tackles on the season ... named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week and a College Football Performance Awards honorable mention against New Mexico State, in which he had four tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble ... the three sacks were one short of the single-game school record, and Bowers actually recorded four sacks, but the fourth was nullified when the Lobos accepted a penalty against NMSU on the play ... also had a season-high eight tackles against Air Force.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: An All-Bay Valley Conference selection for Mendocino in 2012...recorded 44 tackles; more than half (23) were tackles for loss...also had a gaudy 16.5 sacks...forced three fumbles and blocked a kick as well in 2012.

HIGH SCHOOL: A first-team All-North Bay League selection as an offensive lineman for Ukiah HS in 2009. A four-year letterman in football and track and field, Bowers finished second in both the shot put and the discus at the 2009 North Bay League Track and Field Championships in Santa Rosa, Calif.

PERSONAL: Born April 14, 1992 in Ukiah, Calif...parents are Suzanne Carroll and Bryan Bowers...has one older brother, Brad...is hoping to major in kinesiology.
