NEW MEXICO: A walk-on quarterback whose presence has been valuable to a depleted roster  at the quarterback position in 2012 and 2013 ... persistence was rewarded with playing time in 2013 ...suffered a foot injury in the season finale against Boise State that forced him to miss spring practice in 2014 ... has natural play-making instincts and his confidence rubs off on his teammates ...  experience will help the younger quarterbacks in the fall.

2013: Appeared in five games ... completed 6 of 13 passes for 63 yards and a touchdown ... also ran the ball 20 times for 117 yards for an average of 5.8 yards per carry ... threw a key 23-yard touchdown pass to Marquis Bundy against Wyoming that pulled UNM within a single score with a minute left in the game; the Lobos' onside kick failed, and Vega didn't get a second chance to score ... had a career-high 47 rushing yards on seven carries with a long of 31 against Utah State.

NEW MEXICO MILITARY: Set a schoole school record with 2,829 passing yards in 2010 with 22 TDs and 13 interceptions in 2010 ... threw for 2,819 yards with 28 TDs and 12 interceptions in 2011 ... earned second-team All-Western States Football League honors.

HIGH SCHOOL: Won two New Mexico 4A state championships in 2008 and 2009 and was an All-State quarterback at Goddard High School.

PERSONAL: Born Dec. 30, 1991 in Roswell, N.M...son of Silviana and Joaquin Vega...has four sisters: Ana, Elisabeth, Monica and Marisol...three brothers: Jacob, Eric, Joaquin Jr.
