ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Beyond Sports Network on Tuesday named University of New Mexico senior punter Ben Skaer as one of its four national Special Teams Players of the Week for his efforts in the Lobos' 21-13 loss to UTSA in the season opener.
Skaer punted seven times for an average of 47.0 yards with three punts of 50 yards or more and four punts landing inside the Roadrunners 20-yard line. Two of those punts were downed at the 1.
Skaer also earned a College Football Performance Awards honorable mention for his play. Skaer is on the Ruy Guy Award preseason watch list -- with the award going to the nation's best punter each season in college football.
He is currently tied for ninth in the nation with his 47.0-yard punting average.
