ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- University of New Mexico tight ends coach Derek Warehime has been promoted to run game coordinator, head coach Bob Davie announced on Wednesday.
“Derek has been an integral part in the development of our running game the past two seasons,” Davie said.
In each of Warehime’s two seasons at New Mexico working with offensive coordinator Bob DeBesse, the Lobos have finished in the top seven in the nation in rushing yards. In 2012 New Mexico finished fifth in the nation with an average of 301.3 rushing yards per game. During the 2012 campaign, the Lobos also finished second in the nation in time of possession.
The 2013 Lobos rushed for 308.8 yards per game and scored 40 touchdowns on the ground, the second most in school history.
