Lobo Football Team Signs JC Trio for 2014 Season

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico football team began to reload Wednesday by signing three junior college players.

The Lobos signed one defensive back, one linebacker and one offensive lineman. The lone offensive player is Eden Mahina from Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Mahina anchored a line for an offense that averaged 160 rushing yards and 270 passing yards per game on its way to putting up 41 points per game as part of a 9-2 season. He played on both the offensive and defensive lines while at Upland High School in Ontario, Calif., and earned All-CIF Central Division honors. Mahina also had an offer from Middle Tennessee State.

The Lobos have landed a pair of teammates from junior college powerhouse Iowa Western Community College. Defensive back Daniel Henry was a 2013 All-Midwest Football Conference selection after recording 46 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a whopping nine pass breakups. The San Diego native helped the Reivers to an 11-1 record, including a victory in the Graphic Edge Bowl, in 2013. Henry also had offers from UNLV and Wyoming.

Ryan Langford is an athletic linebacker who joined Henry as an All-Midwest Football Conference performer in 2013. As a sophomore he had 64 tackles, including 9.5 for a loss, with two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two defensive touchdowns and two pass breakups. At Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa, he was named All-State as a senior in 2010 after posting 106 tackles on defense and 978 total yards with 10 touchdowns on offense. He also had offers from Utah State, Illinois, Iowa State and Toledo.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: A 2013 All-Midwest Football Conference selection for Iowa Western … finished with 46 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and nine pass breakups … The Reivers went 11-1 in 2013 and beat Butler Community College in the Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa … was the MFC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23 with six tackles (four solos), one interception, one fumble recovery, 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup in IWCC’s 63-6 win over Ellsworth Community College on Oct. 19.

2012: Played one season at Weber State University, appearing in 11 games as a true freshman … played special teams, recording three tackles on the year.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned All-Coastal League honors at cornerback for the Torreys in 2011 … recorded 29 tackles (nine solos) with 13 pass breakups, one interception, three tackles for loss and two forced fumbles … La Jolla went 7-5 and advanced to the second round of the CIF San Diego Sectional Playoffs in 2011 … attended Horizon Christian Academy in 2010 where he was a teammate of current Lobo defensive back Markel Byrd.

PERSONAL: Was born Aug. 30, 1994 in San Diego ... full name is Daniel Lamar Henry … also offered scholarships by Wyoming and UNLV.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: A 2013 All-Midwest Football Conference selection for Iowa Western … finished with 64 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions – one returned for a touchdown – three fumble recoveries – one returned for a touchdown – and two pass breakups. … The Reivers went 11-1 in 2013 and beat Butler Community College in the Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa … In 2012, he finished with 56 tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2010 first-team 4A All-Mississippi League selection and third-team All-State selection for Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa … finished with 106 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and four fumble recoveries … also rushed for 752 yards on 92 carries and nine touchdowns and had 15 receptions for 226 yards and a TD on offense… participated in the 2011 Shrine Bowl Iowa All-Star game … earned 4A All-Mississippi League honors in 2009.

PERSONAL: A native of Davenport, Iowa … also had offers from Utah State, Illinois, Iowa State and Toledo.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Helped the Mounties to a 9-2 record, including a 42-14 win over Ventura College in the Golden State Bowl … helped pave the way as Mount San Antonio rushed for 160 yards per game and passed for 270 yards per game while scoring an average of 41 points per contest … named to the JCGridiron.com Pre-Season Offensive Tackle Watch List for the class of 2014.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Upland High School and helped the Highlanders to a 12-2 record while playing on both lines as a senior as the Highlanders won the Central Division championship of the CIF Southern Section … named to the All-CIF Central Division Team.

PERSONAL: Hometown is Ontario, Calif. … was married on July 27, 2013 to Candace. His brother, Devin, is the starting tight end at Brigham Young … also had an offer from Middle Tennessee State.
