Colorado Springs, Colo. --- The University of New Mexico had four players honored by the league office as Liz Nare, Brianna Webster, Lindsey Guice, and Dylann O’Connor all were named Second Team All-Mountain West. The all-conference teams were based on a vote of the league’s 11 coaches.
Fresno State senior forward Morgan Castain was named Offensive Player of the Year, while San Diego State senior defender Haley Palmer earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bulldog defender Ariana Holmes was named Freshman of the Year and Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka was named Coach of the Year.
The four players honored for UNM tied Boise State for the second-most in the conference, behind two-time regular season champion San Diego State, which had five honored, all on the first team. Boise State had two players on each team.
Webster and Nare are both senior defenders who have been stellar all season long. Webster, one of four field players in the conference to have played every minute this season, and Nare, the all-time leader among UNM field players in minutes played, have been big reasons for UNM’s 0.90 goals against average. Webster also had a game-winning goal against Rice earlier this season.
O’Connor and Guice are both tied for the team scoring lead with 11 points. Guice has five goals and an assist, and her hat trick against Colorado State accounted for all of UNM’s goals in that 3-0 win. It is the only hat trick in MW play this season. O’Connor has four goals and three assists, and twice she has had crosses that have led to own goals. Both she and Guice have three game-winning goals apiece.
